Questions practices ask.

Short answers about the rules and the product. Not legal advice or AUSTRAC guidance.

Do the AML/CTF rules apply to my organisation?

It depends on the service or transaction, not the profession or job title. Tax and BAS preparation, general legal advice and property management are not designated on their own. Captured work can include creating a company or express trust; receiving, holding and controlling or managing property as part of directly advancing a transaction; active steps that directly advance a transfer of real estate, a body corporate or legal arrangement; qualifying conveyancing; an item 9 address provided in the course of business; bullion dealing; or threshold payments for regulated precious items. The free scope check gives a reasoned answer for one service in about a minute.

What are the key AML/CTF dates for newly regulated businesses?

Obligations for newly regulated services began on 1 July 2026. Businesses already providing those designated services had to enrol with AUSTRAC by 29 July 2026, and an AML/CTF compliance officer must be appointed and notified. Cassandra AML organises program work, customer due diligence and reporting dates from the first client file.

What is a designated service for a professional or dealer business?

A designated service is work or a transaction specified by AML/CTF law. Professional items include creating a company or express trust, qualifying legal-form changes, the item 3 property-control service, active help with transfers of real estate, a body corporate or legal arrangement, specified acting arrangements, and item 9 addresses provided in the course of business. Dealer rules separately cover bullion dealing and payments of A$10,000 or more in physical currency for regulated precious items, including linked transactions. The free scope check tests one specific service description.

Can we complete customer due diligence without buying identity checks?

Yes. The manual path lets you record identity and ownership evidence yourself, attach documents, and complete risk review and approval without a paid provider. Electronic identity verification and PEP and sanctions screening are optional. The workspace always shows whether a check was manual, a controlled test or a live provider result.

Does Cassandra AML lodge reports directly with AUSTRAC?

No. Cassandra AML helps authorised staff prepare SMR and TTR exports for AUSTRAC Online, calculates due dates, restricts access to reporting work and records that a report was lodged and its receipt sighted. Your organisation remains responsible for the content of each report and for lodging it through AUSTRAC Online.

Where is our organisation data stored?

Compliance records and uploaded evidence files are stored in PostgreSQL, which runs with the application on a Linode server in Australia. Transactional email delivery may process recipient and delivery metadata outside Australia through our email provider. Optional identity, screening or billing services receive only the data needed when your organisation chooses to use them.

What does Cassandra AML cost for a sole professional or a team?

Free covers one user and up to three active clients. Solo is A$29 a month for one professional with unlimited clients and 10 live checks a month. Practice is A$79 a month with five users and 50 live checks a month, plus A$10 for each additional user. Prices exclude GST. Eligible founding practices can lock Solo at A$19 a month for their first 12 months.

Is Cassandra AML legal advice or AUSTRAC-approved software?

No. Cassandra AML supports compliance work and records the reasoning behind each decision, but it does not give legal advice, guarantee compliance or imply AUSTRAC endorsement. Regulatory content carries source references where available, and anything that needs professional interpretation is flagged for review. Your organisation remains responsible for its AML/CTF obligations.

Tranche 2 obligations began on 1 July 2026.
